How Dr. Gao evaluates it
Nerve conduction studies measure how quickly signals travel along nerves, and electromyography (EMG) assesses the muscles they supply. Together they help diagnose peripheral neuropathy, carpal tunnel syndrome, pinched nerves (radiculopathy) and muscle disorders. Lab work looks for causes such as diabetes or vitamin deficiencies.
Treatment
Treatment depends on the cause and may include managing underlying conditions, nerve pain medication, splinting, physical therapy, or referral to a surgeon when nerve compression is significant.
Frequently asked questions
How long does an EMG and nerve conduction study take?

Do I need to prepare for the test?
